"Μεν"

Meaning: affirmative/enclitic particle (often untranslated, marks emphasis or contrast, especially in conjunction with δέ)

Position: usually second or third word in clause (postpositive)

Special notes: Not to be confused with the verb μένω ('I remain'); 'μέν' is indeclinable and does not have gender, number, case, person, tense, mood, or voice. Commonly used in correlative constructions ('μέν ... δέ ...'), with 'μέν' marking the first item and 'δέ' introducing the 'on the other hand' contrast.
